1. Use shapes

Square QR codes are very common and people usually ignore them. You should consider using shaped QR codes instead of square ones. Using an appropriate shape for QR codes may considerably increase the scans.

You can also reshape the parts of the QR code to make it more beautiful. But, be sure to test the QR code after reshaping. In some cases, the scanners may not recognize the QR code results in unscannable QR codes. This may lead to fewer scans. Reshape the QR code such that your design of the QR code will be scannable and recognizable by the scanners.

2. Use colors

Mostly we have seen black and white QR codes till now but, they can wear colors. Adding colors is the simplest way to make QR codes attractive to draw viewers’ attention. You can color the whole QR code or have different colors for QR elements. You can choose the color theme according to your brand or play with different possibilities and find the best one.

3. Use high-contrast background

When you color the QR code, always try to keep the background and foreground color of the QR code in contrast with each other. Because most scanners may not recognize the QR code with a similar background color. The important thing is, color can appear slightly different after printing in some cases because colors appear darker on the screen. So, choose the background contrast to ensure your QR code is scannable.

4. Add a logo or image

It’s just another way to draw viewers’ attention by placing a logo or image in the center of your QR code. You can choose the image with a short phrase like ‘scan me’ or ‘read me’ acting as a call to action for the viewers or simply adding your brand logo. Adding a logo or image helps users know the QR code’s purpose and makes your QR code design attractive. We suggest using high-quality logos or images.

 5. Use stickers

Give your viewers a reason to scan a  QR code using the stickers. You can use suitable call-to-action stickers for the viewers to know what they’ll get on scanning. E.g., you have a QR code on your business card with the sticker saying ‘scan to add contact.’ Stickers are beautiful colored images with different call-to-action texts that can help you to get more scans.

7. Isolate QR code

The quiet zone is the small space around the QR code, and it’s most important for scanners to recognize the QR code from their neighborhood. If the QR code and other elements are placed too close, the QR code can be unscannable.

8. Make it stand out

Make sure to place the QR code big enough to stand out where they are put, e.g., flyers, brochures, etc. When you deliver the vital information in the QR codes, they should not hide away from customers’ attention. If you place a QR code too small, it will go unnoticed or be unscannable. Try to put your QR code in the center or where the customers can catch attention quickly. Make it as large as possible, considering the size of where you are placing the QR  code. Your goal should be grabbing viewers’ attention and making them scan your QR code.
